Participation of
Canada in
As
you are aware, Thailand hosted the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and
Astrophysics (IOAA) in Phuket, Thailand during November 12-21, 2017. Her Royal
Highness Princess of Thailand Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presented in the official
opening ceremony.
In this
IOAA, 210 participants from 45 different countries of the world came and spent
10 days together competing and interacting with each other.
This
year marked our fifth year of hard work and endless efforts in preparing our
team for this prestigious competition. As always, Russian-Canadian
Educational and Recreational Centre of Toronto hosted theoretical and practical
training of the participants of the Olympiad.
The
Canadian team consisted of the winners of the International Physics and Astrophysics Olympiad, the Canadian
Astronomical Olympiad and the
CAP contest, as follows:
1. Anna Khoroshilov
2. Edward Tian
3. Felix Yu
4. Leon Kim
5. Matthew Zhang
The team was accompanied by two leaders: Dr. Vera Zagainova and Konstantin Toubis.
The 11th IOAA was very well organized. All participants
were accommodated in excellent hotels. There were many excursions and
interesting meetings.
All rounds (theoretical, observation, data
analysis) and team competition were well organized too.
Our Results:

Khoroshilov received 3rd place in the team competition.
