Participation of Canada in
The 8th IOAA was held in Romania from 1 to 11 August, 2014 in the city of Suceava. The Olympiad was attended by 37 countries and about 260 participants (students, team leaders, оbservers).
The Canadian team consisted of the winners of the International Astronomy Olympiads, the CAP contest, as follows:
· Jason Cheuk Nam Liang
· Daniel Pachkine
· Yan Huang
· Yuan Qi Ni
· Andrew Jinwook Kim
The team was accompanied by two leaders of the group:
· Konstantin Toubis
· Vera Zagainova
On the base of the Russian-Canadian Educational and Recreational Centre Toronto was carried theoretical and practical training of the participants of the Olympiad. Also in the area of Newmarket, participants made observations of the sky, and preparing for observational tour.
We made a real breakthrough in this Olympiad!!!
According to the results three rounds of the Olympics (theoretical, practical and supervisory) Yan Huang was awarded the silver medal, and Jason Cheuk Nam Liang and Yuan Qi Ni bronze medals. The main achievement of our team was that Jason Cheuk Nam Liang, Daniel Pachkine, Yan Huang, Yuan Qi Ni, Andrew Jinwook Kim showed real solidarity and mutual understanding and completing quests for Team Competition of better than all 43 teams! They have five gold medals!
